Cressida was a 4 door luxury sedan which debuted in 1973 and was produced till 1992. The Cressida came under the mid-sized sedan category and is believed to be the inspiration behind the Lexus series, the luxury arm of Toyota. The Cressida was also marketed as Chaser and Cresta in many countries. The first generation Toyota Cressida was introduced in 1977 with sedan, station wagon and coupe variants. The engines were 2.0 L and
2.6 L with a choice of 5-speed manual or
4-speed automatic transmission. The 2.6L engine was a 4M-E I6 SOHC unit which was known to be very quiet. In fact the car was known to be one of the quietest. The 3rd gen Cressida was introduced by Toyota in 1985. It was similar to the 1984 model but came with added features such as a knock-sensor, a more aerodynamic design, electronic shock absorber control feature, digital instrument cluster, etc. The 4th generation Cessida came with a new 3.0L 7M-GE engine giving a power rating of 190 hp and came with 4 speed automatic transmission. The new model was larger than its predecessors and came with new features like anti-lock brakes and a new transmission mechanism that did not come out of park mode till the driver presses the brake pedal. The Cressida was removed from the US market in 1992 giving way to the new Lexus series of luxury cars.
When shopping for a new or used car it is important to do your research. Used cars may or may not carry baggage. You ought to study the CarFax reports. You ought to see the mileage the vehicle has and how many miles it is expected to have during its lifetime. It also important to analyze the expected car maintenance for a specific car. If the vehicle owner took great care of the car, has had all the oil changes, you will save on car repairs on a yearly basis. That savings can go towards the purchase of a better vehicle. This is why we tend to recommend Toyotas. They last a long time, are cheaper to maintain, and are very reliable. |
