Toyota FJ40 for Sale
Toyota FJ40 refers to the 40 series of Toyota Land Cruiser, a much celebrated SUV from the Toyota lineup. The 40 series was produced between 1960 to 1984. The FJ40 series were 2 door compact SUV's and came with both diesel as well as petrol variants.
THe J40 was introduced as a short wheelbase SUV with a wheelbase of 2650mm. Later the longer versions were also introduced. The longer wheelbase versions were the the J45 to J47 series that also came with a 4 door version as well as the 2 door pickup version. Another version of Toyota FJ40 was the Bandeirante, that was made for the Brazilian market.
The J40's were rugged all terrain vehicles and very popular among the sports enthusiasts. IT had a very reliable drive train and strong chassis. The SUV came with an option of hard top as well as soft top. Moreover, it the chassis was excellent for making modifications. The J40 was later replaced by the J70, but the J40 were still very popular among the masses. In fact the newer versions were based on the J40 with modifications to the engine.
FJ40 was launched with the B series diesel engines. These had a 3.0L 4 cylinder diesel engine which was upgraded to 3.2L in 2B and 3.4L in 3B. The Hseries were introduced in 1972 with 3.6 L 6 cylinder diesel engines which were subsequently upgraded to 4.0L.
A new SUV called the FJ Cruiser was launched recently in 2006 by Toyota which was styled on the old J40. The SUV relives the design of the older vehicle, and has been well accepted.
