Toyota Hilux SW4

hilux sw4 toyota

The Hilux Surf is an SUV from Toyota, based on the very popular pickup truck from Toyota called the Hilux pickup. The vehicle is sold mostly in Japan although its cousin, the Hilux pickup is sold in America as well as europe where its very popular. The vehicle is sold in US as the Toyota 4 Runner.

Although initially the Hilux surf was just a modified rear covered Hilux pickup, its popularity prompted its manufacturers to develop it as an SUV, independent of the Hilux. The car is in the same class as the Toyota Landcruiser, Toyota Frontrunner, Mitsubishi Pajero, Nissan Pathfinder, etc.

The first generation Surf was launched in 1984 and production continued till 1989. zit was featured as 3 3 door SUV, very much similar to the Hilux pickup, with a fiberglass top covering. The power came from a 2.0L inline 4 as well as a bigger 2.4L engine. This was modified in 1985 with a 2.4 L engine. In 1988, the engine capacity was increased to 3.0L and featured a V6 engine. A 2.4L turbodiesel variant was also available.

The 2nd generation featured a steel body for the rear although it continued to be a modified Hilux. This time the body style was 5 door as compared to the previous generation which featured 3 door body. The new car had a large choice of engines, 2.0L and 2.4L Inline 4 as well as a 3.0 L V6. Also, there was a choice of 2.4L, 2.8L as well as 3.0L turbodiesel engine too.

Introduced in 1995, the new 3rd generation Hilux Surf was finally made independent of the Hilux Pickup. The new car was based on the LandCruiser Prado. The body was a 5 door one with a choice of 2.7L and 3.4 L gasoline as well as 3.0L turbodiesel engines. Later a 3.0L intercooled turbodiesel engine was also launched.

The 4th generation Hlux surf was launched in 2003. The new vehicle was given a major makeover. The vehicle is still in production. The new surf has an improved chassis as well as drivetrain.

When shopping for a new or used car it is important to do your research. Used cars may or may not carry baggage. You ought to study the CarFax reports. You ought to see the mileage the vehicle has and how many miles it is expected to have during its lifetime. It also important to analyze the expected car maintenance for a specific car. If the vehicle owner took great care of the car, has had all the oil changes, you will save on car repairs on a yearly basis. That savings can go towards the purchase of a better vehicle.

This is why we tend to recommend Toyotas. They last a long time, are cheaper to maintain, and are very reliable.
