The Hybrid is the new model of the older
Highlander All Terrain Vehicles fitted with hybrid engine. The older Highlander
came with standard petrol engine. The older Highlander, called the Kluger in
Australia and Japan due to the presence of the same trim name in Hyundai
Terracan series is a crossover SUV. The 2008 model sports a 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6
engine and a five-speed automatic transmission giving a power of 270 hp.
The
hybrid engine which is fitted with the Highlander Hybrid is based on Hybrid
Synergy Drive technology from Toyota. This new technology uses the gasoline as
well as electric power to run the engine. This leads to more fuel efficiency and
less pollution. The Highlander Hybrid was first iintroduced in North America in
2005. It is marketed as Kluger Hybrid in Australia as well as Japan. The 2005
Hybrid was fitted with 3.3 L V6 engine.
Over the yers new improvements have been
performedon the Highlander Hybrid. The latest version is the 2008 Highlander
Hybrid. Due to go on sale from September 2007, the car features the 3.3 L V6
engine with second generation Hybrid Synergy Drive technology. It also features
the sophesticsted VDIM stability system, making it an ideal offraoder. The VDIM
system integrates the various stability mechanisms such as throttle contriol,
intelligent 4 wheel drive, electronic steering stability mechanism, among a host
of different fetures. This time the car will not retain the Kluger brand anme in
Australia, it will becalled Highlander Hybrid. In America, it will still be
marketed as Highlander Hybrid.
