Starlet

starlet toyota car models

Toyota Starlet is a subcompact car from Toyota. It debuted in 1973 and continued till 1999. It was launched to replace the aging Toyota Publica although the Publica name was retained in some of markets. The car is similar to the Daihatsu Charade, Fiat Uno, Nissan Micra, Toyota Vitz, etc.

There have been 6 generations of the car starting from the 40 series to the 90 series. The 40 series was launched in April 1973. It was named as the Publica Starlet 40 series. It was a 2 door sedan, although a 3 door station wagon variant was also released. Later a 4-door sedan was launched in October. The car came with a choice of 1.0L or 1.2L engine and came in four trim levels.

The 60 series was introduced in 1978. The body style was a 3-door hatch, 5 door hatch as well as a 5-door estate version. 5-door wagon variant was available only in Japan, Hong Kong, and Germany. A choice of 1.0L, 1.2L and 1.3L engines was available with 5 trim levels Standard, Deluxe, XL, S, and SE.

70 Series debuted in October 1984. The major change was the shift from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive. The station wagon version was discontinued. Only a 3-door and 5-door hatch was available. With the 70 series, turbo charged engines were also launched.

In 1990, the 80 series was launched. The design was much more european with soft curves and more rounded features. Like the 70 series, 3-door and 5-door hatch models were available. An all -wheel drive variant was also launched with this model. The 90 series was introduced in 1996.It also retained the same 3 and 5-door hatchback body style.

When shopping for a new or used car it is important to do your research. Used cars may or may not carry baggage. You ought to study the CarFax reports. You ought to see the mileage the vehicle has and how many miles it is expected to have during its lifetime. It also important to analyze the expected car maintenance for a specific car. If the vehicle owner took great care of the car, has had all the oil changes, you will save on car repairs on a yearly basis. That savings can go towards the purchase of a better vehicle.

This is why we tend to recommend Toyotas. They last a long time, are cheaper to maintain, and are very reliable.
