The Supra is a sports car from Toyota. Debuted in 1979, the car was under production till 2002. It is called called the Toyota Celica Supra as the styling of the Supra was derived from Celica, but having a longer and wider body. The Supra was initially a model of the Celica till 1985. From 1986, Supra was secluded as its own model and was no longer under the Celica brand. The Supra is similar to Mitsubishi 300GT, Nissan Skyline and the Mazda RX7. Its mechanical features are also quite like the Toyota 2000GT. The Supra was sold with body styles of fastback and a GT coupe. Both models were very popular. The GT version was used in many motor sports events. There have been 3 generations of the car. All the generations have the 6 cylinder inline engines starting with the Mseries in the first generation cars, derived from the 2000GT. First generation of Supra was called the Mark1 and was introduced in 1979. The came with a choice of 2.0L M-EU, 2.0L M-TEU, 2.6L 4ME and 2.8L 5ME 6 cylinder engines derived from the 2000GT instead of celica's 4-cylinder engine. The second generation MarkII was launched in 1982 and was completely redesigned. They were known as Celica XX in Japan. The front of the car was quite different from the previous with the conspicuous fully retractable pop-up headlights. The new Celica Supra was available in two models in America, the L type and the P type, with the L being the luxury and the P type, performance. Engine choices were 2.0L as well as 2.8L with 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic transmission. The third generation MArkIII was launched in 1986. IN this model, the Supra was sold as a completely different model from the Celica. The engine was upgraded to a more powerful 3.0L inline 6 giving a 200 bhp of power, this was in fact the flagship engine of Toyota, the GTE series. Later tubocharged versions of the engine were also introduced in the Supra. The car was removed from the US market in 1999 and finally from the Japanese market in 2002.
