Toyota Tundra is a full sized pickup truck, introduced in North America in 2000. The truck, manufactured in San Antonio, Texas was launched to replace the slow selling T 100. Since its inception, he truck saw brisk sales and good reviews. It was awarded Truck of the year for 2000 by Motor Trend magazine. The Tundra is similar to other large trucks from Toyota like the Sequoia, the Tacoma as well as the 4Runner. Its competitors from other manufacturers are the Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram, Nissan Titan and the likes. Till date there have been two generations of the Tundra. The first one staring from 2000 and the second generation being launched in 2007. The first generation Tundra was introduced by its manufacturers to replace the ailing T100. It was proposed to be called as the T150, successor to the T100. But as the name '150' was already used by Ford Motor Company, the car was renamed as Tundra. The Tundra was offered with engines of capacity 3.4 L V6 and 4.7 L V8 for 2000 model. The transmission was a choice of 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. Later in 2005 an upgradation was made with introduction of a 4.0 L V6 engine and 6-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmission options. The second generation Tundra was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in 2006. This was a larger variant of the previous Tundra with some similarities with the smaller truck Tacoma. It had a new generation 5.7 liter VVTi V8 engine rated at 381 bhp. A wide range of configurations were available with the Tundra. For eg the were choices of 3 cab body styles, 3 engines, 2 transmissions(manual and automatic), 4 wheelbases. Apart from these, there were choices of 3 bed lengths(5.5 ft, 6.5ft and 8ft). It also included the usual features associated with Toyota offroaders such as Down Hill Assist Control (DAC), Hill Side Assist Control (HAC), tailgate assist, etc including the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) package as default feature.
When shopping for a new or used car it is important to do your research. Used cars may or may not carry baggage. You ought to study the CarFax reports. You ought to see the mileage the vehicle has and how many miles it is expected to have during its lifetime. It also important to analyze the expected car maintenance for a specific car. If the vehicle owner took great care of the car, has had all the oil changes, you will save on car repairs on a yearly basis. That savings can go towards the purchase of a better vehicle. This is why we tend to recommend Toyotas. They last a long time, are cheaper to maintain, and are very reliable. |
